Frequently asked questions.

When are opening hours?

The toy library is open most Saturdays of the year, 8:30am to 10:30am. It is staffed by members who are volunteers, so please ensure you arrive with time to complete your borrowing before 10:30am.

How do I join?

You can join in person at the Toy Library or by completing a member profile online. There’s a few boring bits that need a signature, which will need to be completed in person.

Do you close over the holiday period?

We are normally closed over the Christmas holidays from the middle of December to the middle of January.

How much does a membership cost?

The annual fee is $80 (plus a one off $10 joining fee) . This is paid via bank transfer at the Toy Library. Once payment has been made and all paperwork is complete, you can start borrowing straight away.

How many toys can I borrow?

Each family can borrow five toys in total - usually comprising of 3 toys or ride ons and 2 games/puzzles/costumes.

I have some toys in great condition that I'd like to donate to the Toy Library. Can I do that?
Please contact us via our email address with a detailed description of the toy(s) you would like to donate, accompanied with photographs. Be aware, that we are only able to accept toys of a very high quality.

I have a suggestion and/or complaint?

We welcome all feedback and suggestions from families who use our service.  You can chat to us during any toy library shift or send a direct email. In the unlikely event of any concern that we can't resolve on the spot, please follow our complaints procedure on our complaints form available on request.

How do I clean the toys I am returning?

Where appropriate, wash the toy well in hot soapy water – using a toothbrush will help get into hard to reach places. While still damp, use the skewer cotton bud to clean all nooks and crannies and edges so that the toy is perfectly clean. Dry the toy with a tea towel or leave to dry overnight.

I'd like to help out, is there a way I can be more involved?

The Committee ensures the smooth running of the toy library through a wide variety of roles. These roles are held for the calendar year and any member can nominate for a position at the annual AGM.

The main advantage of being a Committee member is having the golden key which gives access to the toy library 24/7. This saves waiting in line to return and borrow toys and allows the Committee member to peruse the toys at their leisure.

If you are interested in a Committee position, especially (but not only!) if you have skills in packaging, cataloguing, rosters, administration or marketing, please chat to us about putting your name forward at the AGM.
